Top Uses for Air Compressors in Various Industries

TABLE OF CONTENTS

The air compressor is mainly used to provide air power to mechanical equipment, it is also the key equipment in the pneumatic equipment system, but also the main body of the electromechanical lead gas source device, it is the mechanical energy of the motor into gas pressure energy equipment, is used to compress the air pressure generator.

By compressing the volume of air, or increasing the speed of air movement, the gas in the unit volume increases the value of air compression and then makes the air kinetic energy into pressure energy.

Top Uses for Air Compressors in Various Industries

Component Structure of Air Compressor

  1. Oil Circulation System
    • Before starting, start the oil pump control system. After the oil pump control system is started, ensure that the lubrication parts of the compressor are well lubricated. At the same time, the oil pump control system can be used to adjust the internal oil pressure and oil temperature through the built-in temperature control valve to meet the needs of the system.
  2. Air Circulation System
    • When the compressor works, the air is sucked in through the self-cleaning air filter, which is cleaned automatically by PLC. The air enters into the first stage of compression after automatic adjustment of the inlet guide vane. The temperature of the gas after the first stage of compression is relatively high, and then it enters into the intermediate cooler for cooling (the water goes to the tube, and the gas goes to the outside of the tube, and the flow rate of the water in the intermediate cooler is required to be 110m/h). It then enters into the second stage of the compression system.
    • To avoid the gas in the system from falling into the compression chamber (to avoid starting under pressure), the compressor discharge pipeline is installed with a hanging full-opening check valve. The compressor discharged gas pushes open the check valve into the exhaust, and then into the first post-cooler, the second post-cooler, and then into the exhaust pipeline.
  3. Water Circulation System
    • Cooling water enters the intermediate cooler of the compressor through the pipeline to cool down the gas discharged from the first stage of compression. It then enters the aftercooler to cool down the exhaust gas. Another way the cooling water inlet pipe passes through the two heat exchangers on the upper part of the main motor to cool down the motor winding, and there is also a way for the oil cooler for cooling.
  4. Distribution System
    • The air compressor for a 2000kW high-voltage motor (10kV) uses full-voltage start. The control cabinet is for indoor AC, metal-clad withdrawable switchgear. The switchgear consists of a fixed cabinet and a withdrawable part (the trolley). This achieves the purpose of control, protection, and monitoring, with the ‘five-proof’ function.
  5. Screen Protection System
    • The signalling device is divided into two kinds: accident signals and preview signals. The main task of an accident signal is to send out a sound signal in time when the circuit breaker trips in an accident and make the corresponding circuit breaker light position signal flash.
    • The main task of the preview signal is to issue an acoustic signal instantaneously or delayed when an abnormal phenomenon occurs in the operating equipment and make the light character plate show the content of the abnormal phenomenon.
  6. DC Power Supply System
    • The kotech’s K series automatic maintenance-free lead-acid battery DC power supply set consists of a charging device screen, DC feeder screen, and battery. It features automatic current stabilization, automatic voltage stabilization, automatic voltage regulation, and other functions, providing power for the signal screen and high-voltage control system.
  7. DTC Control System
    • The DTC control panel is the ‘brain’ of the compressor. All kinds of on-site sensor values are summarized to the DTC control panel, which displays all kinds of operating parameters and monitors the operating status of each part of the compressor. When some parameters are out of the permissible range, the DTC will send out corresponding alarms or automatically shut down the compressor.

What is an Air Compressor Used For?

In industrial applications, air compressors are used in two ways: as energy and as part of a process, called energy air and effective air, respectively.

  1. Energy Air
    • Energy air is used to store and transfer energy for mechanical operations. Specifically, air compressors:
      • Power pneumatic production equipment
      • Operate lathe chucks
      • Use pressure to clean parts
      • Transport and cool components in the production process
  2. Effective Air
    • Effective air is an essential and effective component of a particular process. In this case, the air is in contact with the product. Therefore, depending on your industry, air quality is very important.
    • Clean, dry air quality or CDA quality (for short) can be enhanced by oil-free compressors and air treatment measures. This is achieved through the use of aftertreatment equipment in conjunction with the compressor, including filters and dryers.

uses of air compressors from four aspects.

Four aspects of the use for air compressors

  1. Compressed air as a power source

Air compressors are capable of generating compressed air, which is widely used in various applications. In industrial production, wind-powered machinery and wind-powered tools often need compressed air as a power to drive, improve work efficiency. In addition, compressed air is often used to control instruments and automation devices to ensure the accuracy and stability of production processes. In the field of national defence and scientific research, some special weapons launching, submarine sinking and shipwreck salvage and other tasks, also rely on different pressure levels of compressed air to achieve.

  1. Application in chemical process

In the chemical industry, the role of the air compressor can not be ignored. Increasing the gas pressure can promote the chemical reaction, thus improving the reaction speed and the purity of the products. For example, in the fertiliser production process, the ammonia process needs to make hydrogen and nitrogen react under high pressure conditions; in the production of urea, it is also necessary to provide appropriate gas pressure through the air compressor to promote the chemical reaction between carbon dioxide and ammonia.

In addition, air compressors are also widely used in chemical processes such as plastics production and petroleum refining, providing strong support for the development of the chemical industry.

  1. Compressed gas for refrigeration and separation

Air compressors also play a key role in the field of refrigeration. Through the process of compression, cooling and expansion, gas can be converted into liquid state, thus realising artificial refrigeration. Refrigeration air compressors are indispensable equipment in the fields of freezing, cold storage and air conditioning. At the same time, air compressors are also used in the process of separating gases.

When a gas mixture is compressed, it can be separated one by one in a separation device according to the gasification temperatures of the different components to obtain a high purity gas. This technology has a wide range of applications in air separation, oil cracking gas separation and other fields.

  1. Gas conveying and storage

Air compressors play an important role in gas conveying and storage. In the process of gas conveying, air compressor can increase the pressure of gas, overcome the resistance of pipeline, and realise the gas conveying in long distance. Whether it’s gas, natural gas or other industrial gases, they all need to be pressurised and transported by means of an air compressor.

In addition, air compressors are used for the bottled storage of gases. By compressing gases and filling them into cylinders, gases can be easily stored and transported. The nature of different gases determines the different pressure of their bottling, and the air compressor needs to be adjusted accordingly to the characteristics of the gas.
